Here is the link to my video on Fair Trade. I made my movie by collecting pictures and writing some facts and information about cotton pickers and that we can make a difference if we all help out and go Fair Trade!

I enjoyed making this video because it is nice to know that you are helping to make people more aware of the issues in the world and this could make a difference so thats why i made this movie.

The next step is to take some action and GO FAIR TRADE!

What is the problem?  The problem is that the Cotton farmers don’t get paid enough money so this is unfair.

Why should the college/students/the Principal care about this problem?  We should all care for this problem because we benefit from them but we aren’t giving back what they deserve out of it. We have the power to change things so we should care about others and try and help.

What is the solution and why and what action can be taken?  The solution is to make a change. One way to do this is that colleges/schools unifroms should all be fairtrade because then we are all ensuring that everyone gets a fair share out of their products.  People need to be made more aware so websites, campaigns and videos should be made to promote this and get people to join in!

Fair Trade Chocolate

Now you can buy fair trade products such as chocolate, clothes, tea, coffee etc. This is a real benefit because this means that the farmers producing the coco beans are being paid a fair price, instead of them being paid unfairly and cheaply. By having this option to buy fair trade products, we are given the choice on what to buy. Although this may be a little more expensive, the benefits are that you are contributing the lives of others and when i found out about cadbury’s going fair trade i was really encouraged by this in buying from that brand because i knew i would be helping towards supporting fair trade.

10:10 campaign

South Nottingham College should go green! By trying to cut thier use of enery by 10 percent every year, this will have huge possitive impacts on helping to reduce the amount of enery being used.

1,300 schools have already become part of this campaign and we need to try and boost this futher. South Nottingham College can then raise awareness and hopefully encourage other colleges and schools in the area to join too.

By trying to ensure that students and teachers take up more walking and reduce their useage of their cars at lunch times and getting to and from work, this will really help in reducing the amount of carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere. Other alternatives can be travelling by bus or cycling to work/college.

In the UK on average one person is responsible for 10 tones of Co2 a year, so with this campaign this will reduce these figures more and more each year.

Who should you send your group or blog to? Sending this information to the principal of the college will raise awareness and hopefully this will result in these changes being made.

How do you get their details? Check on the colleges internet website. Then explain why you want to do the campaign, what benefits this will have on the college and the environment.

What happens next? If any more information is needed, this website offers more detailed information. http://peopleandplanet.org/gogreen/6ffe.

saving energy

I think that one way to drastically change the amount of energy used is travelling to and from college. Many people use cars to get to college and this is contributing to pollution and major issues in the world. If people walked more and used other ways to travel such as buses, this could reduce the amount of energy being used. Another way to reduce this is that lesson times changed so that there were two full days in the week such as 9-5 instead of having some days for an hour or two. This will reduce the amount travelling from students, helping to reduce energy.

Global warming issues-Fatties

  • Do you think the article influences peoples’ opinions? I think it does influence people opinions.
  • How does it do this? I think that this artical does this because when people read it they see that point of view which they may not have considered before and i think everyone is trying to find an excuse on what causes global warming and people don’t like to admit that they are responsible and everyone is contributing in their own way. So even though the artical isn’t entirely true, it still influences on peoples opinions and may cause them to look at it in a different way. However i do feel that the artical is partly true because the more people eat, the more food has to be produced and that is using up resources and then it must be transported which uses up more petrol and this is contributing to global warming.

The video which i watch was to do with the effect that we are having on the world. I found this to be a very powerful message and it hits hard on how serious these issues are and will get if we don’t make a change. I think that people don’t really realise that small changed can make a difference and when you think about the impacts on the planet in the future, then they are worth doing now while we can.

I am currently studying Travel and Tourism at South Nottingham College. My favourite subject is cruise because its interesting and i enjoy watching videos and using brochures because it makes a change from other resources we use in lessons. My hobbies are shopping, socialising and cheerleading! One global issue which i care about is the carbon footprint because i feel its important to prevent the world from suffering from these issues. I chose this course because i found it interesting, quite challenging and a good oportunity such as having the chance to travel and learn new things. :)
